Authentic icon "Nativity"

On December 25th, one of the biggest church holidays - Nativity of Christ or Christmas - is celebrated in Bulgaria and throughout the Christian world. This holy day in Christian religion and culture is associated with the birth of Jesus Christ. It is described in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew.

They tell about the parents of Jesus - Mary and the carpenter Joseph, a descendant of King David himself. They traveled from the city of Nazareth to the city of Bethlehem, the birthplace of the wife. They tried to stay in an inn, but could not find a place and were forced to spend the night in a cave near the city, in which at that time the shepherds locked their sheep. It was on that night that the baby Jesus was born. According to the Gospels, an extraordinary light appeared in the sky and an angel appeared before the surrounding shepherds. He told them that on this holy night the Savior was born into the world and so they became the first to worship the Christian God.

According to religious beliefs, it is the coming of Christ to earth that marks the beginning of a new era in the history of mankind. On Christmas night, three Eastern wise men also showed their respect for the baby, who were attracted by a star that had risen in the sky, which shone stronger and brighter than all the others.

Although it is associated with the Christian religion and beliefs, the Nativity of Christ is also celebrated by many countries that practice other religions. In them it has become more like a kind of secular holiday associated with the giving of gifts. Despite their different beliefs, people all over the world have come to see Christmas as a day that unites and brings them together. A day that makes them even a little better.

The icon is created using materials and paints according to the original technology for making of Orthodox icons. Gold leaf, patina, and cracking varnish were used, to make the icon look even more authentic. The icon is painted with egg tempera paint, as per the traditional technology for icon painting.
