Authentic icon "St. George" - II

Saint Great Martyr George the Victorious is one of the most revered saints, a martyr for Christ's faith. He is revered by both the Eastern and Western Christian churches, as well as in Islam. During the time of Emperor Diocletian, he was a soldier in the Roman Empire. Immortalized after the miracle of killing the dragon, he is the patron saint of many cities and countries in Europe. In Cappadocia (Asia Minor), George received the military title of tribune only at the age of 20, after proving himself as a general. In 303, during the reign of Emperor Diocletian, he was killed for defending the Christian faith.

The Bulgarian Orthodox Church celebrates his memory on May 6, which is an official state holiday. Day of Courage and the Bulgarian Army. Along with the figure of St. Georgi in the icon are also presented moments from his life path.

The icon is created using materials and paints according to the original technology for making of Orthodox icons. Gold leaf, patina, and cracking varnish were used, to make the icon look even more authentic. The icon is painted with egg tempera paint, as per the traditional technology for icon painting.
