Authentic icon "St. John the Baptist"

John the Baptist was a prophet of God. God assigned him the task of preparing the way for the Messiah, or Christ. John fulfilled it by preaching God's message to his compatriots, the Jews, in order to turn their hearts to God. John's message helped the sincere people who heard him to recognize the promised Messiah in the person of Jesus of Nazareth. John urged his listeners to repent of their sins and be baptized as a sign of repentance. Because he baptized many, he became known as John the Baptist. The most important conversion he performed was to Jesus.

The icon is created using materials and paints according to the original technology for making of Orthodox icons. Gold leaf, patina, and cracking varnish were used, to make the icon look even more authentic. The icon is painted with egg tempera paint, as per the traditional technology for icon painting.
