Authentic icon "St. Great Martyr Catherine"

Ekaterina was a very beautiful and smart girl who studied philosophy, literature and especially medicine. Ekaterina's mother was a Christian, but hid her faith - at that time Christians were persecuted. Once she took Catherine to a wandering hermit to give her good advice, it was he who turned her to the knowledge of God. One night, the Mother of God appeared to her in a dream, and that was the moment when Catherine gave her soul to the Christian faith, and then became "heavenly - pure and holy, the bride of Christ". She zealously did not fail to rebuke the pagans.

Powerless before the persistence of Catherine, who managed to enlighten many people in a short time, the king ordered her to be killed. Around the year 305 - the head of the only 18-year-old Catherine fell. Tradition says that angels took the body and carried it to Mount Sinai, where two centuries later monks found the relics and took them to the monastery "St. Catherine" (Egypt). In old Bulgarian customs, November 24 is known as Catherine's Day.

The icon is created using materials and paints according to the original technology for making of Orthodox icons. Gold leaf, patina, and cracking varnish were used, to make the icon look even more authentic. The icon is painted with egg tempera paint, as per the traditional technology for icon painting.
