Micho Dimitrov

Meet the artist

Micho Dimitrov was born in Plovdiv. She studied violin with Rositsa Diamandieva, Todor Katsarov and Tatyana Krasteva. He won the First Prize and the Grand Prize at the "Svetoslav Obretenov" competition in Provadia, two gold medals (violin and chamber music) at the Republic Festival in Sofia. He studied at the National Academy of Music "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” – Sofia in the violin class of Prof. Boyan Lechev and in the chamber music class of Prof. Vladimir Avramov (1974 – 1980). Laureate of the "Tchaikovsky" (1978) and "Chrysler" competitions (1979), then specialized with Prof. Ifra Niemann at the "Guildhall" in London and graduated with the highest distinction "Concert Recital Diploma - Premier Prix". He was awarded the Myra Hess Trust Prize (1980 - 1983).


In 1983, at the invitation of the conductor Dobrin Petkov, he assumed the position of concertmaster of the Plovdiv Philharmonic. Since 1988 he lives and works in the Netherlands. There he became the leader of the Ardis chamber ensemble, with which he performed in the country and made recordings for the Netherlands Radio. In the same year, he became concertmaster of the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Hilversum. 


Since 2012, Prof. Micho Dimitrov has been painting. The first solo exhibition was in Plovdiv in 2013. Since then, he has had 26 solo exhibitions in Sofia, Plovdiv, Kardjali, Smolyan, Haskovo, Stara Zagora. He has exhibited 3 times in the European Parliament in Sofia. He has over 1200 paintings and graphics, he has realized 13 solo exhibitions and participated in five general exhibitions in Bulgaria, the Netherlands and France.
