The Art of Proper Arrangement: Basic Rules

We know that when the walls are decorated with paintings, it gives extra elegance to the room.

Although this seems easy at first glance, the beautiful one and harmonious arrangement of works of art is no easy task.

There are many factors to consider, when you embark on the delicate process of “dressing up your walls in art”. Some may be more obvious than others, but we think we nailed it let's collect some useful tips for that how to handle all this properly.

Whether you want to create a unique composition of artwork or hang just one picture, it helps to follow these simple rules.

Characteristics of a successful art arrangement:

• Consistency in size

• Consistency of form

• Linear layout

So let's go through these ground rules. First, it's best always consider the size of the artwork, photos, paintings or framed items you own. The artwork must fit the chosen wall: if it is too big, it will not be seen and perceived correctly, if it is too small, it will sink into its surroundings.

When choosing artwork for a specific space, first you need to carefully study the area you want to decorate. Visualization is the secret to success. Take the time to consider how each piece, individually, would interact with its surroundings.

A careful examination of the wall should be accompanied by a careful study of the the room it is in, and the room, as part of the overall space – you know that walls are not isolated elements, always think about the overall picture. How will all the components come together and work in harmony?

Each picture should fit and reflect the room, to which it ultimately belongs. Decorative details, such as artwork and paintings, are usually one of the final touches to interior design, so it's a good idea to add them only after you've researched and considered the overall space in detail.

Inspiration can come from anywhere – a shape, curve, line or frame. Whether you want to accent the color of the flooring or something else, these initial inspirations can be the foundation of any successful project.

Another key element, when you decide to hang pictures, is to know at what height exactly you should to place it. There is nothing worse than a work of art struggling for space. Placed too low or too high would disturb the natural ambience of the room. Or worse: it won't be noticed at all.

When it comes to putting pictures on the wall, the general rule is that the ideal picture positioning is such that its central part to be at eye level – approximately 160 cm from the floor.

However, rules are made to be broken – the ideal height of a work of art can vary depending on the space it belongs to, especially when it is part of a larger composition, such as a display of works in an art gallery.

How to mix and match your artwork

Personal taste always plays an important role, but to achieve the balance of the composition, it always helps to identify it key topic, which unites the individual works of art.

Basically, you can choose to combine your paintings depending on – theme or style, type or dominant color.

How to deal technically with the placement of the wall

When hanging a picture, be prepared – always allow as much time as possible.

Make sure you have a piece of paper, a pencil, masking tape, a drill, a tape measure, a level, and a screwdriver. Also prepare a paper bag for the dust to fall into as you drill.
